Here are some benefits of using these specialized cabinets:
♦ Safety: The primary benefit is increased safety. These cabinets are built to contain spills and to prevent the contents from igniting, providing a safe environment for workers.
♦ Compliance with Regulations: Storing flammable materials in a compliant manner is not just good practice; it's often required by law. OSHA and NFPA regulations may specify the use of such cabinets to ensure workplace safety.
♦ Fire Resistance: Jamco BM-Series cabinets are typically constructed with double-walled steel with insulating air space, providing fire-resistant protection to the contents inside.
♦ Leak Proof Sump: The bottom of the cabinets usually includes a 2-inch leak-proof sump designed to contain spills. This is crucial for preventing liquids from leaking out and creating a fire hazard or causing environmental damage.
♦ Spill Containment: The shelves in these cabinets are often adjustable and include a trough design to contain spills within the cabinet, providing additional safety against potential leaks and spills.
♦ Durability: Jamco cabinets are typically made of durable materials like heavy-gauge steel, which can withstand harsh environments and provide long service life.
♦ Security: They come equipped with locks or can be padlocked, helping to prevent unauthorized access to dangerous materials.
♦ Visibility: Most flammable cabinets, including the BM-Series, have a bright yellow powder coat paint finish with large "FLAMMABLE - KEEP FIRE AWAY" labels. This makes them easily identifiable and reminds personnel of the hazards.
♦ Improved Organization: Using these cabinets helps maintain a more organized and efficient workspace by providing a designated area for flammable substances.
♦ Reduced Insurance Premiums: Sometimes, having proper safety equipment in place can reduce insurance costs because it decreases the risk of a costly fire.
♦ Ease of Access: Designed for convenience, these cabinets are often placed at point-of-use locations where flammable liquids are needed, which reduces the time spent retrieving materials from a distant storage location.
♦ Grounding Connection: To prevent static buildup, these cabinets usually include a grounding connection to ground the cabinet and its contents.
Here are some typical uses of the Jamco Flammable Safety Cabinet across different industries:
♦ Laboratories: Flammable chemicals are commonly used in research and clinical laboratories. The Jamco cabinet provides a secure environment for storing solvents, reagents, and other flammable substances, minimizing the risk of ignition near heat sources or sparks.
♦ Manufacturing Facilities: Manufacturing processes often involve flammable materials, such as paints, solvents, and adhesives. Storing these materials in safety cabinets helps prevent fires and ensures a safer manufacturing floor.
♦ Automotive Shops: Automotive repair and maintenance shops use flammable liquids like gasoline, oils, and lubricants. Safety cabinets are essential for storing these substances safely, reducing the fire risk in a space filled with potential ignition sources.
♦ Printing and Publishing: The printing industry uses inks, cleaning solvents, and other flammable liquids. Flammable safety cabinets are vital for storing these materials, especially in areas with printing presses and binding equipment.
♦ Warehousing and Storage: Facilities that store various goods, including flammable materials, rely on safety cabinets to segregate and safely store these items, mitigating fire risks in storage areas.
♦ Aerospace and Defense: The aerospace and defense sectors use various flammable materials, from fuels to specialty lubricants and coatings. Safety cabinets store these materials in compliance with strict industry regulations.
♦ Pharmaceutical Industry: MPharmaceutical manufacturing and research involve solvents and other flammable chemicals. Safety cabinets ensure these materials are stored safely, protecting the products and the personnel.
♦ Construction Sites: Flammable materials like adhesives, sealants, and solvents are commonly used on construction sites. Portable flammable safety cabinets can be used to store these materials safely on-site.
♦ Oil and Gas: Operations in the oil and gas industry involve highly flammable substances. Safety cabinets are used in refineries, processing plants, and testing labs to store smaller quantities of flammable liquids safely.
♦ Educational Institutions: Schools, colleges, and universities with chemistry labs require the safe storage of flammable chemicals to protect students and faculty. These cabinets are also used in vocational training centers for trades involving flammable materials.
♦ Paint Stores and Departments: Retailers and storerooms for paint and painting supplies use flammable safety cabinets to store large quantities of paints, thinners, and removers, adhering to safety standards and preventing accidental ignition.
♦ Agricultural Facilities: Agricultural operations use pesticides and fertilizers, many of which are flammable. Safety cabinets provide a secure storage solution, particularly when these chemicals are mixed or transferred.
The Jamco Flammable Safety Cabinet serves a vital role in these industries by offering a safe, compliant method for storing hazardous materials, protecting against fire risks, and contributing to a safer working environment.
