Pallets, sometimes inaccurately called a skid, are vessels that support goods in a stable state while in static or dynamic position. These are moved with a forklift, pallet jack, or other material handling equipment designed to handle the pallet. A pallet is the structural foundation of a unit load which allows handling and storage efficiencies. Goods or shipping containers are often placed on a pallet secured with strapping, stretch wrap or shrink wrap and shipped. It works well many forms of packaging including handheld totes, trays, boxes or other containers commonly used for bulk shipping. While most pallets are wood in its most traditional form, pallets constructed from plastic, metal, paper have made monumental gains due to their durability, cleanliness, cost and most importantly recyclability. Each material has advantages and disadvantages relative to the others, but it allows for many options to consider versus just a wood pallet.
